A House Church or House Chapel comprises a group of Christians meeting for worship in a private home rather than a public church building. This is usually necessitated by a smaller size congregation, unavailability or non-affordability of a church facility, predominantly broadcasting Services, among other ministries.

The Greek word 𝛋𝛐𝛊𝛎𝛐𝛎𝛊𝛂 [koi-noh-NEE-ah] is understood as an interactive, reciprocating and participating relationship with both God and believers who share in their mutual life in Christ (Acts 2:42; 1 John 1:3 & 6–7; 2 Cor. 9:13; Phil. 3:10).

House churches have also become a sign of necessity in many places due to dwindling numbers of committed or practicing Orthodox Christians, especially in the western diaspora.  

Congregations meeting in their homes is an old, biblical practice that seems to have returned in these last days.

Greet your wife Apphia, our sister, and Archippus, our fellow soldier in ministry; and the church that meets in your house (Philippians 1:2).

Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea and to Nympha and the congregation that meets in her house (Colossians 4:15).

The congregations of Asia send you their greetings. Aquila and Prisca, together with the church [that meets] in their house, send you their warm greetings in the Lord (1 Corinthians 16:19).
